Why CAN bus

Why CAN BUS

Controller Area Network (CAN)  or CAN bus originally developed by Bosch  in 1985 for vehicle MCU networks. Earlier automotive manufacturers connected electronic devices using point-to-point wiring systems. Manufacturers started more electronics in vehicles, which resulted in more wire and heavyweight and expensive. Then they replaced  CAN bus. In CAN bus wiring is very easy , which reduced wiring cost, complexity, weight and flexibility . CAN bus is  a high-integrity serial bus protocol  for networking intelligent devices. All automotive industries  quickly started using CAN and, in 1994, it became the international standard known as ISO 11898. Since 1995, several higher-level protocols have been standardised on CAN, such as EtherCAT ,CANopen and DeviceNet. Other markets like automation ,robotics and motion controls have extensively adopted these additional protocols
